Legacy Co-op announces $18.5M Travel Centre to serve drivers, RV travelers and the Yorkton region.

Legacy Co-op is building a Travel Centre that makes stopping simple. Fuel up, park with confidence, grab a meal and a shower, and get back on the road. The site will serve professional drivers, RV travellers and local motorists, day and night.

“Drivers in and around Yorkton need a dependable place to fuel, park and refresh,” said Harley McClughan, General Manager, Legacy Co-op. “This project responds to that need and reflects our commitment to service and community.”

The Travel Centre will operate 24 hours a day and will include self-serve fuelling (diesel and gasoline), DEF, showers, washrooms, laundry and a truckers’ lounge. The site plan separates heavy and light traffic, with six high-flow diesel lanes equipped with satellite pumps for semis and dedicated light-vehicle fuelling on both sides of the property. Parking will accommodate approximately 30 semis and a separate area for approximately 15 RVs, supported by a sani-dump. Food and beverage offerings will include hot food, deli sandwiches, salads, veggie trays, RO water and a broad selection of beverages. Outdoor amenities will include a picnic area and an off-leash dog park. The development covers roughly 10 acres and includes a 6,400 sq. ft. convenience store and lounge.

The project addresses current constraints on safe parking and manoeuvring for semis and RVs in the area, where traffic volumes on Highway 9 are high and nearby ag-processing expansions are increasing truck and employee traffic. To reduce congestion at the Highway 9 intersection, access to the site will be provided by a new service road from Grain Millers Road. Legacy Co-op has completed a Traffic Impact Analysis in consultation with the RM of Orkney, the City of Yorkton and the Ministry of Highways, with a final report pending. The project will comply with the City of Yorkton’s updated bylaws related to truck stops.

The development represents an investment of approximately $18.5 million. The site is currently farmland, with water service being extended to this part of the city. The project will support employment during construction and create permanent roles once operational. Subject to final approvals, groundbreaking is targeted for 2026. Construction of the heavy-traffic fuelling and parking, light-traffic fuelling and parking, and the Travel Centre is planned to proceed concurrently, with opening anticipated in late 2026 or early 2027.

“This is a practical investment in our community,” added McClughan, “It supports regional industry, improves safety and gives travellers a dependable place to stop. It also creates jobs and keeps spending local.”

Why here

Highway 9 carries some of the highest traffic into and out of Yorkton. Nearby ag-processing growth brings more trucks and employee trips. Today, safe parking and room to manoeuvre are limited. The Travel Centre adds purpose-built access, parking and services to improve safety and reduce roadside congestion.

Access and traffic

A new service road from Grain Millers Road will provide site access and help reduce traffic at the Highway 9 intersection. Legacy Co-op has completed a Traffic Impact Analysis with the RM of Orkney, the City of Yorkton and the Ministry of Highways. A final report is pending. The project will meet the City of Yorkton’s updated bylaws related to truck stops.
